All the steps complete without errors – but I am still stuck with 2.4 openoffice ( albeit a new binary). I am running intrepid.
Many people seem to be saying this procedure no longer works with intrepid. It seems you must download and install .debs directly or upgrade to Jaunty. This is my impression.

Oops, submitted before I was done.

You should get back:

Open Synaptic, click “reload”, and the updates should be listed. As of this date (Apr 4, 2009), the version listed is 1:3.0.1-7ubuntu~intrepid1.

One note, when you get the error about the GPG public key, the last 8 characters are what you use. For example, for this repository, it said “NO_PUBKEY 60D11217247D1CFF”, therefore you use the part “247D1DFF”. If you get a similar error for another repository, use the last 8 of that PUBKEY instead.

I know that this is 2 months after you asked the question, but if you have already found the answer, hopefully it will help someone else.

To andy: You need to install the GPG public key. To do that, open the Terminal and from the command line, type:

gpg –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv 247D1CFF

and press enter. You should get back something like this:

gpg: requesting key 247D1CFF from hkp server keyserver.ubuntu.com
gpg: key 247D1CFF: public key “Launchpad PPA for OpenOffice.org Scribblers” imported
gpg: Total number processed: 1
gpg: imported: 1 (RSA: 1)

You then type this:

gpg –export –armor 247D1CFF | sudo apt-key add -

and get the response asking for your password password. Type it, press ENTER, and you should get back:

Hi,
I get errors:

serros@inspiron6400:~$ sudo aptitude update

E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock – open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net intrepid Release: The following signatures couldn’t be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY 60D11217247D1CFF
